DIRECT OR INDIRECT LIGHTING?

The way we illuminate each of the spaces in our home determines how cozy, calm and spacious it is. From such a large area with the living room to a simple social bathroom, you need a wise choice of the type of light you should have.

That is why it is important to carefully analyze where it should be located, its intensity, type of bulb, but especially its direction, whether it is direct or indirect.

Traditionally, direct light is the most used in most of the interior spaces of a home, even in the office or in commercial spaces. Table lamps, pendants, attached to the walls and the ceiling are the predominant ones on the market, however indirect light, that which is not focused on a particular point, gains more strength. Which is the reason?

With the intervention of interior architectural spaces, especially when reforming walls, walls or ceilings, they facilitate the incorporation of indirect lighting systems, which, unlike direct light, generates a comfortable and calm atmosphere.

This type of lighting usually mimics the light source. Its most common application is strips of LED lights on ceilings, false walls, the floor or custom furniture, which due to their shape make the beam of light more diffuse than that of a lamp for direct lighting.

Indirect lighting can be used in all the spaces of our house, but it is especially in the rooms or bedrooms, since it allows us to create the atmosphere that we want, warm and cozy, just by turning on the switch.

It is recommended that the use of indirect lighting for these spaces be of a warm tone so that when diffused on the walls and the ceiling it bounces like a warm beam of light that invites you to relax and want to stay there.

However, we should not rule out direct light altogether. You can even combine both and the result is even more striking and enveloping.

Lamps that direct the beam of light to a precise point compensate for spaces that indirect light does not reach. They also fulfill a specific function such as reading, looking for an object or item of clothing, lighting the dressing room, among others.

ARE THERE OTHER PLACES WHERE INDIRECT LIGHT SHOULD BE USED?

Yes, as we mentioned in the previous paragraph, the mixture of both lighting modalities generates surprising effects.

In social spaces such as the living room or dining room, the use of both styles of lighting not only compensates for the light load, it also facilitates the setting and decoration of the other elements that compose it, such as the chosen furniture.

There, floor lamps can be arranged in the corners, which together with ceiling pendant lamps and indirect light on the ceiling create a powerfully attractive atmosphere that invites you to stay there and have a good time.
